Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner

My parents-in-law and parents came to our house for Chinese New Year reunion dinner.

We had steamboat.

First time using the timer function of the camera.

It looked like it was mostly veggie but it wasn't....as we hadn't put in the meat yet. :P

Full Moon

Is that a full moon?

Flower Ball

Walking near my flat and I saw this sweet and lovely flower that looks like a ball. Isn't the colours nicely designed?

Find My iPhone and iPad app

While I was at home, I tested the Find My iPhone app on my wife's iPhone. It worked! I located where she was. It was a useful stalking/tracking tool! But of course, I will not use to track her.

On the other hand, I think it will be useful to monitor the elderly for their safety, after getting their endorsement.

Ants and Flies

Two types of ants are appearing out of nowhere in our house. One is the tiny red colour one and the other is the larger one. Whenever there is food, the ants will apparate around it!

We read from forums that this Combat Ant Killer is good. I will report the result in one week's time.

Another tougher issue is the shit fly (or you called it fruit fly). They always gather around the sink and whenever I turned on the tap, they will suddenly fly around the sinks.

We tried the vinegar+soap booby trap (from the Internet) but it didn't work.

Rivervale Plaza

We went to RVP (Rivervale Plaza) for breakfast. Saw this place quite happening before Chinese New Year. Many people are buying new year goodies...

...like dried mushrooms. According to the aunties, the gills of the mushrooms must be light colour without dirts to consider good.

Hike in University and Polytechnic Tuition Fees

If I remember correctly, my tuition fees for polytechnic was around S$1,700 in 1992. Today, it is $2,200. I think being a poly student is tougher now, with more financial requirements. Last time, I don't even have the need for mobile phone, internet subscription and laptop.

When I was bypassing back Ngee Ann Polytechnic few weeks ago, I saw the new building that replaces the "business canteen". (We called it by that name because it is besides the Business Studies block.) It looks good. Maybe next year I will go and take a look during the Open House.

MacBook Pro Battery Dying

I noticed an "Exclamation Mark" icon and the "Service Battery" words under the battery icon. No wonder recently my battery had not been lasting as long as it used to be. As I never buy Apple Care warranty (and never will), changing the battery should be expensive, but it had been 4 years, so still worth it :)

My desktop Mac dead after 5 years, my MacBook Pro battery dying after 4 years, think quite well used liao :P

I downloaded Coconut Battery and found that my battery capacity is only 66% of the original.

Baby Snail

We found a living miniature snail when we were washing vegetable today! It is so tiny and cute. It is moving up the basket sooooooo slowly.

I used Canon S90 camera to shoot, I'm pretty impressed with the camera macro function.

Israel New Shekel

As we are cleaning our house, we discovered 4 Israeli Shekel (שקל חדש). We can clearly use the Golden Lampstand. Should be שקלים  since it is plural.

Is that David's harp?

Using Baking Soda and Vinegar to Clean Kitchen Sinks

My wife is using baking soda and vinegar to clean the kitchen sinks. She found this idea on the internet. It's a cheap, easy, better for environment and doesn't give out toxic fumes.

I'm amazed at the foaming and fizzing chemical reaction when vinegar was poured unto the baking soda in the sink. I've forgotten my chemistry, but if you are interested, you can check out the formula here.

11-1-11, 11:11pm

All the "1s" . The 11 Nov '11 is even better!

萤火虫

It has been years since I heard touching Chinese song. After watching the China Talent show, I found that I immediately like this song very much! On digging, I discovered that this is a very old song but I haven't heard of it when I was in school!

Another song which I immediately like is the Israel National Anthem and Day by Day.

Last Photos of my Mac Pro

My Mac Pro is officially dead. I couldn't boot it up. Just when I mentioned that my computer lasted nearly 5 years and still alive, now it is dead! But it's OK as 5 years is more than enough. :)

Since it is already dead, I will do a dissection! Mac Pro is designed to be very easily taken apart, without any screwdriver, as there is no need to unscrew from outside to inside.

Tata! Open up. All components are slotted in, no screws needed.

Upon unlocking, hard disk bay and DVD drive can be slotted out easily.

The daughterboard for the RAM chips.

Look at the amount of dust accumulated for the past 5 years!

Layers of dust in every internal parts.

This is the DVD drive slot. No screw.

Hard disk drive slot. No screw too.

There are a total of 4 hard disk bays. I only have 1 hard disk drive.

Hard disk drive is from Seagate.

I think this connector is serial ATA huh?

Is that the CPU chip? So small one meh? Or is it the GPU? I haven't been self-assembling computers since I graduated from school.

Mouldy Pillow

Didn't know that my pillow can become moldy in such a short time! Maybe that's why it is affecting my sleep? I just read this article about dust mites...

Golden Pillow 933

Despite feeling feverish this morning, I still order 933 Golden Pillow home delivery today. I even ate Panadol before eating it!

It is called Golden Pillow because the curry chicken is baked completely inside a large bread that shapes like a pillow. This is our first time ordering and the delivery came 45 minutes early.

The 3 boxes are taped up to prevent movement. Pretty considerate.

This nice box reminds me of Happy Meal :)

We ordered the fried bee hoon too. It tastes very nice.

Tada! This is how it looks like.

The pillow is actually quite big. Enough for 2 persons to eat.

We tear open the bread and the curry chicken is inside.

The curry and the chicken both taste delicious. The bread is slightly sweet, though I prefer it to be plain.
