I have never seen a salted duck egg in its original form. Salted duck egg is a Chinese preserved food. I googled and learnt that in the preparation process, salted duck eggs are soaked in damp salted charcoal.
This is how a salted duck egg looks like, covered with a layer of salted charcoal paste and wrapped up in clear plastic sheet.
The charcoal has to be removed by washing the egg using water.
After the charcoal paste is removed, this is what a salted duck egg looks like. It is slightly larger than a chicken egg and the shell is white in colour. We ate one during early March porridge dinner. You can check it out how it looks like when it is opened.
