Traditional Market and Shops

Took my new Canon S90 compact for a walk today to do some street photography. :)

As more and more supermarkets are mushrooming and young people prefer them, traditional markets and shops are disappearing... so, let's capture some photos fast!

A shop at Tanjong Pagar.

So much bean sprouts being soaked in water. Guess what pot the stall owner use?
It's the traditional porcelain pot with the picture of a dragon.

I ate these ear-shaped biscuits when I was a kid!

I noticed this fruit stall at Tanjong Pagar has very good business.

These are all the traditional biscuits I used to eat. See the colour thing on the left-hand side? A circle-shaped waffle which I found that had no taste at all. Hee.

Canon S90 good depth of field

I find the Canon S90 has pretty good DOF for a compact camera.

This trolley photo doesn't really show the nice DOF.

Obvious DOF. By the way, the focus point is auto selected by the camera. Exposure is also auto. Very good right? :P

This is macro mode. I used auto mode all the way and the camera automatically selected "macro". Very good close-up shot for a compact camera!

This is another close-up, showing off the shallow DOF. Auto mode.

The last photo to show off DOF and close-up. There is slight camera shake in this photo due to low light.

I found that in auto mode, the camera's auto-ISO doesn't choose ISO 800 often. For low light most of them are ISO 640, only very few are ISO 800. Got to try more on low light as I wanted to see how grainy it is at highest ISO.

Canon S90 has very good auto exposure!

I tested some shots using my new Canon s90 and found that the auto mode is pretty accurate for outdoor natural lighting!

Vivid colours of flats and blue sky.

The camera is able to detect this as sunset/sunrise and metering is not tricked by the bright spot.

The sensor detect it as sunset/sunrise and set the white balance accordingly. Photo a bit blurred due to hand shake as it was dusk.

The focusing is pretty good too. I was not shooting at eye level. I placed my camera very lowly, just above the ground.

The camera did some processing as the real sky doesn't look as saturated. And I like it. Of course, can shoot RAW if you don't want the camera to do post processing.

Canon S90 Digital Camera

It's time to upgrade my own PnS camera! I got the Canon S90. Can go out and take some pic during this long weekend. :)

I did a few test shots using the "Auto" mode and the results were good. Speed and sharpness is much better than my aging old digi cam.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I just finished the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows within 3 days' time. Personally, I find it boring. The part I of this movie will come out in November 2010 and the part II in July 2011.

Google Image Swirl is cool!

This new Google image search is very interesting!

It categories your search visually based on similarity. For example, I search for "apple", it group up the "fruit" and the "Apple computer" in different circles.

It is called Google Image Swirl.

Clicking on each image can link to further links which are presented visually. Example, I searched for "Dead Sea Scrolls" below.

Rented "Drag Me to Hell" DVD from Play! kiosk. The format seems to be longer than the usual 16:9, isn't it?
